ESTABLISHMENT OF DEGREE COLLEGE IN LAKSHADWEEP

At present Lakshadweep does not have any institution beyond the +2 level..  There are numerous attractive courses of study for those who pass +2 examination including technical and professional courses but the facilities in institutions on the mainland demands higher motivation and increased expenditure. At the same time certain courses available on the mainland institutions are not necessarily the courses required for Lakshadweep. Therefore a degree level institution has been proposed for Lakshadweep which will offer 3-4 essential courses.

SARVASHIKSHA ABHYAN

The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is an ambitious programme of the Govt. of India. It aims at providing useful and relevant elementary education for all children in the 6 to 14 age group by the year 2010. The programme opens up opportunities for all the children to develop their talents and capabilities through the provision of community owned quality education in a mission mode. The Abhyan was launched in Lakshadweep on Jan.1, 2003. Twelve Resource Persons have already been appointed to take care of the 341 out of school children in all islands.
